Factor Analysis

Factor Analysis is the common name to denote several methods of multivariate analysis.

The common feature of these methods is that they take a large number of variables or objects and aim to identify a small number of factors that explain the interrelations among the variables or objects

Factors are some constructs derived by a linear combination of the original variables.

Methods of Factor Analysis are applied in a variety of domains (mostly statistical) where inter-object relationships are the focus, often in conjunction with regression analysis and discriminant analysis.

The methods differ mainly in what inter-object property is taken as the focus.
