Hypothesis Testing (sometimes
called Confirmatory Data Analysis) is one of the most
important tools of application of statistics to real life problems. It involves
conducting tests and experiments to see if a proposed explanation
(Statistical Hypothesis) for an observed
phenomenon works in practice. Most often, decisions are required to be made
concerning populations on the basis of sample information and statistical tests
are used in arriving at these decisions.
The methods of Hypothesis Testing differ mainly
in what feature of an observed phenomenon is taken as the focus.
